Rupnow named to UWW Hall
Sussex resident had decorated pitching career
Sussex resident and Oconomowoc native Darrell Rupnow was named to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Athletics Hall of Fame. He will be installed with seven others at a ceremony Oct. 20 and will be honored at halftime of the Whitewater football game against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh that day.
Rupnow, who first attended Madison Area Technical College before transferring to UWW, pitched for the baseball team in 1989 and 1990, earning All-Conference honors both years. He was a member of the All-Midwest Region team in 1989 and helped the Warhawks to two NCAA Division III tournament berths. He was team captain and team MVP in 1990.
His seven complete games in the 1989 and 1990 season tie for the third-most in the school's record books. He also finds himself in the school's top 10 in innings pitched, win-loss record, complete games and shutouts. He is currently a territory sales manager for Jaeckle Distributors and has children who have participated in athletics at Hamilton High School, including state track and field champion Jess and former multi-sport athlete Justin.
In the Land O'Lakes, Rupnow earned Rookie of the Year honors in the late '80s with the Oconomowoc Five O's and later played for the Lannon Stonemen.
