Eagleville Elementary Hosts Green Apple Day of Service
EAGLEVILLE ELEMENTARY TO HOST GREEN APPLE DAY OF SERVICE EVENT IN CONJUNCTION WITH TRANSWESTERN
Sustainability Activities Include Invasive Plant Removal, Waste Audit, Energy Audit
(OCTOBER 16, 2013 – EAGLE, WIS.) – Transwestern Sustainability Services today announced it will be partnering with Eagleville Elementary Charter School on Nov. 1, 2013, for a Green Apple Day of Service community event. The Green Apple program, founded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is designed to combine philanthropy, sustainability and education by making our schools a healthier, more sustainable learning environment for children.
Transwestern Sustainability Services will bring together community volunteers to remove invasive plant species, educate the students about Jericho Creek, perform a waste audit in conjunction with the school’s participation in Keep America Beautiful’s Recycle-BOWL competition and have the students become “Energy Detectives” to find ways to reduce energy consumption in their classrooms.
The Green Apple Day of Service, an initiative of the Center for Green Schools at the USGBC and now in its second year, provides an opportunity for students, teachers, parents, elected officials, organizations, companies and more to transform all schools into healthy, safe, cost-efficient and productive learning places. Sponsorship and donations are available through the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance at www.wgba.org. Sponsorships are tax deductible.
