Schauer Youth & Children’s Choir Spring Into Song
December 13, 2013—Hartford, WI— The Schauer Community School of the Arts is celebrating the 12th year of their choral program for students entering 5K through 8th grade. The choir’s purpose is enrich the lives of children and their families by creating a community of young vocalists, by teaching good vocal habits including posture, breath, and tone. No auditions are required.
The Schauer Youth Choir, under the direction of Lori Hassig, is open to students entering grades 4-8 and rehearses on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 pm. Students learn musical skills such as rhythm, harmony, sight-reading, and listening. The director chooses vocal selections that allow singers to grow focusing on vocal, reading, and part-singing skills.
The Schauer Children’s Choir, under the direction of Abby Bordak, is open to students entering grades 5K-3 and rehearses on Mondays from 5:30-6:15 pm. The introductory choir provides young singers the opportunity to sing in rounds, canons, partner songs, and songs of other cultures. Students will use rhythm instruments and movement activities to reinforce and develop singing skills. No experience is needed.
The spring session of choir runs January 13 through May 10, 2014 and culminates in a public performance with the Schauer Youth String Orchestra in the Ruth A. Knoll Theater on Saturday, May 10 at 2:00 pm. The Choir will also sing the National Anthem at the Milwaukee Wave Game on Sunday, February 16 at 2:00 pm.
The Schauer Youth & Children’s Choir is part of the Schauer Community School of the Arts, offering year-round program in music, dance, theater, and visual arts classes for students of all ages, levels, and visions.
