Waukesha County Citizen’s Cross Country Ski Race Scheduled for January 4, 2014

Hard to believe the first of the year will soon be upon us. The cross-country ski community is hoping this recent snow will stay so the Waukesha County Citizen’s Cross Country Ski Race will happen once again. It is scheduled for Saturday, January 4th at Nashotah Park.

The race began in 1979, as the interest in cross country skiing was escalating. It was designed mainly to give exposure to the sport, introduce the public to Waukesha County Park’s network of ski trails and to provide weekend athletes a chance to test themselves in a fun low-key setting. Over the years, it has become a very competitive race with hundreds of participants and people coming from as far as Illinois and Iowa. The last race was held in 2013.

A registration for is available on line at www.waukeshacountyparks.com, however payment is taken the day of the race. Registration times are: Children’s Race - 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on race day; and Youth & Adult - 9:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on race day.

There are divisions for Children (2km & 5km), Women (7.3K & 12.8K) & Men (7.3K & 12.8K).

Race Day information:

Location: Waukesha County’s NASHOTAH PARK, located between Hartland and Oconomowoc on County Trunk Highway ‘C’, 1/4 mile north of Highway ‘16’.

Race Time: 10:30 a.m. - START for ages 10 and under (1 mile)

11:30 a.m. - START for 7.3K & 12.8K

Awards: Awards given to the top three finishers in each class.

Children’s race awards will be presented immediately following the race. Adult race results will be available shortly after race is completed and will be distributed on site.

The race is co-sponsored by Waukesha County Park System and The Bicycle Doctor – Nordic Ski Shop out of Dousman.
