Wisconsin Watercolor Society Exhibit at the Schauer Center
February 27, 2014—Hartford, WI— The Schauer Arts & Activities Center welcomes the Wisconsin Watercolor Society to the Suckow Family Art Gallery. The exhibition of 33 paintings by 19 artists is on display through Sunday, April 13, 2014.
The Wisconsin Watercolor Society was organized on April 5, 1952 when eight watercolor artists banded together to form "a group for the purpose of encouraging talent in the field of watercolor and developing interest in knowledge about its many qualities." These founders, all teachers and faculty members of various Wisconsin schools included: Marion Bode (Milwaukee Downer College), Tom Dietrich (Lawrence College), Earl Gessert (Layton Art School), Emily Groom (Milwaukee Downer College), Gerald Landt (Country Day School), Dorothy Meredith (Peckham Jr. High School), Robert von Neuman (Milwaukee State Teachers College), and Peter Rotier (University of Wisconsin Extension).
Over the years, the Wisconsin Watercolor Society membership has grown to over 100 artists from throughout the state. Some of those participating in the exhibit at the Schauer Center include: Christine Alfery (Lac du Flambeau), Charles Ausavich (Plymouth), David Bielot (Rubicon), William K. Davis (Theinsville), Joyce Eesley (Milwaukee), Karen Finerty (Elm Grove), Evelyn Grasse (Sheboyban), Steve Horvath (Milwaukee), Joye Moon (Oshkosh), Judith Gahn Murphy (Milwaukee), Everett Powell (Richﬁeld), George Ronsholdt (Milwaukee), Kappy Schwab (Mequon), Chris Sommerfelt (Wauwatosa), Susan Spanbauer (Oshkosh), Alice Struck (Mequon), Donald Vander Leest (Racine), John Vlaj (Greendale), and Kathryn Wedge (Neenah).
A free reception will be held Friday, March 28 from 6:30-7:30 pm prior to Cinderella & Other Tales. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the artist and view the exhibit. Complimentary refreshments will be available.
The Suckow Family Art Gallery is located on the second level of the Schauer Center at 147 N. Rural Street in downtown Hartford. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.
