Hamilton offers drivers’ education

Registration for Hamilton High School summer drivers’ education – including theory, simulation and behind-the-wheel – is underway. Registration forms are available in the high school front lobby. Completed forms with fees will be accepted at the high school office during school hours or by mail before Aug. 1. Students who will be 16 years old by March 30, 2015 are eligible to enroll in all three phases of the program.

The theory phase begins on Aug. 4 at 1:30 p.m. and includes 15 two-hour classes Monday through Friday. The theory phase covers the Motorist Manual, rules of the road, seat belts, insurance, car ownership and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The simulation, which starts Aug. 12-13, is five simulated experiences which cover turning, expressway driving, rural roads, winter and snow, hazards and collision traps and split-second decisions.

Behind-the-wheel includes six two-hour lessons held after school and Saturday mornings for students who have passed written, vision and sign tests at the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles Department. The cost is $35 for the tests. Parents are required to practice with their child for 30 hours, 10 being at night.

Fees are $350 for the full program. For more information, please contact Hamilton Drivers’ Education Coordinator Jackie Rottler at rottja@hamilton.k12.wi.us. Hamilton High School is located at W220 N6151 Town Line Road, Sussex.
