Schauer Center Welcomes New Dance Instructors

July 16, 2014 - Hartford, WI – The Schauer Arts & Activities Center’s Community School of the Arts is pleased to welcome Angel Cooksey and Kelly DeLaura as instructors for the Schauer School of Dance. Angel Cooksey will be teaching ballet, pre-pointe, point, and Kelly DeLaura will instruct Ballroom dancing classes starting with the Fall 2014 session.

Angel Cooksey started her dance education at the Milwaukee Ballet School (MBS) for 11 years and finished in the top level of the Pre-Professional Division. Angel pursued further dance education from Joffrey Ballet School, UW- Milwaukee, and Danceworks in Milwaukee. She continues to take classes to stay current in the ever-evolving environment of dance. Angel performed as a pre-professional student with the Milwaukee Ballet Company and MBS in The Nutcracker, and a number of other productions. She has been teaching and choreographing classical ballet technique, pointe, and contemporary since 2003 and is thrilled to continue her passion of educating dance students on the magic and athleticism of ballet at the Schauer Community School of the Arts.

Kelly DeLaura started teaching ballroom dancing in the early ‘80s at Fred Astaire Dance Studio where she taught for several years. She went on to teach at other studios in the Milwaukee area. Kelly trained under such elite professionals as Corky & Shirley Ballas (world champions and parents of Mark Ballas from Dancing with the Stars), as well as Tony Meredith (Latin dance champion and guest choreographer for the TV show So You Think You Can Dance). Teaching is Kelly's passion. She earned her education degree from UW-Milwaukee in 1992 and just finished her Master's degree from Cardinal Stritch University this Spring.

The Schauer Community School of the Arts offers year-round music, dance, theater, and visual arts education for students of all ages, levels, and visions. For more information on classes or to register, visit SchauerCenter.org or call 262-670-0560, ext. 4.
