Randy Kernats, Pewaukee School District, Wins Safety Challenge
Randy Kernats of the Pewaukee School District won the individual prize in the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO) Safety Challenge at the WASBO Custodial & Maintenance Conference at Glen Hills Middle School in Glendale, WI on June 19, 2014.
In the Safety Challenge, teams or individuals were asked to tour a specially set up classroom, identify up to 50 potential hazards and safety concerns, and explain how they should be remedied. Some possible answers: a fan with a broken guard, food stored with chemicals, an open junction box, flammables stored on top of the flammable cabinet, and a blocked door.
The score was based on the number of accurate answers provided in just four minutes. Kernats earned the most points of any individual with 15 correct answers.
The WASBO Custodial & Maintenance Conference is held in several Wisconsin locations annually and features practical, hands-on knowledge that school personnel can implement in their districts. WASBO provides professional development for school business staff, fosters a network of support, and advocates for funding that ensures outstanding educational opportunities for all children in Wisconsin.
