Waukesha County’s Mukwonago Park Dog Exercise Area Grand Opening Announced
Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas invites you to the grand opening of Waukesha County Park System’s Dog Exercise Area at Mukwonago Park. The dog exercise area, which is located at W325 S9925 Beulah Rd. in Mukwonago, will open on Saturday, September 6 at 10 a.m. following the ribbon cutting event.
“I am very proud of Waukesha County’s successful dog exercise areas and I am certain that this new area in Mukwonago will be equally successful,” said County Executive Dan Vrakas. “Waukesha County is constantly seeking ways to best meet the recreational needs of our citizens and dog exercise areas are a great example of that.”
The County received a donation of $28,000 from Mukwonago Area Animal Lovers to help offset the cost of development and construction of the 38-acre site. Approximately 15.5 acres have been developed as fenced use areas and parking lot. The remaining acreage includes two large tracts of preserved wooded wetlands and buffer areas created for their preservation.
“This park is a great example of what can be accomplished when government works with the community,” Vrakas said. “By partnering with Mukwonago Area Animal Lovers, we were able to secure the necessary funding to make the dog exercise area a reality. My sincere thank you and appreciation for all those who donated financially and contributed to this project.”
The grand opening event is free and open to the public. Dogs and dog owners are encouraged to enjoy the area after the ribbon cutting. The park entrance fee of $4.00 will be waived for all guests arriving before noon.
The hours of operation are sunrise to 10 p.m., unless posted otherwise. Use of the Dog Exercise Area is included in the $4.00 per car entrance fee and annual sticker. All dogs entering a County Park are required to have a current dog license and must be kept on a six-foot leash until inside the double-gated entry. Dog owners are required to show a current dog license upon request. Only dogs 15 inches (at shoulder height) and under should use the small breed area. Small dogs may play in the large breed area at their own risk (not recommended).
The Mukwonago Park Dog Exercise Area is the third in the Waukesha County Park System. Minooka Park, 1927 E. Sunset in Waukesha, opened a 15-acre Dog Exercise Area in October of 2007; Nashotah Park’s 14.5-acre site has been open since 2009 at W330 N5113 County Trunk Highway C in Nashotah.
