TWO LOCAL GYMNASTS WIN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES!
Two local gymnasts, Anna Belson 13 of Hartland and Bridget Pendergast 12 of Sussex, won state championship titles at the Wisconsin USAG State Gymnastics Championships held in Mequon on April 4, 2009.
Belson, a 7th grader at Stone Bank Middle School captured the Level 7 Floor Exercise title by scoring a 9.575. Belson also took home 2nd place honors on the Balance Beam and 3rd in the All-Around competition.
Pendergast, a 7th grader at Merton Middle School, also a Level 7 gymnast won the Vault crown, with an astounding 9.725.
Both were contenders for top-in-state following numerous champion titles throughout the season. Gymnasts must qualify to participate at the state championships and then compete against other top level athletes from gymnastics clubs throughout the state. This continues the Lake Country’s recent gymnastics success. Earlier this Spring, Arrowhead High School won the high school state gymnastics championship for the first time in school history, and Arrowhead’s head coach Bob Pulkowski was recently named WIAC high school gymnastics coach of the year.
