Water Film Fest Tours County in October

Thirst and FLOW (For Love of Water), two award-winning documentary films, examine the growing conflict over control of water:

Is water a human right or a commodity? Should water be held in the public trust, or be subject to the global marketplace? Who decides?

The film fest consists of four showings of Thirst and three of FLOW, to be shown at locations in and around Waukesha County throughout October and is sponsored by the Waukesha County Environmental Action League (WEAL). The public is welcome.

A brief discussion and light refreshments will follow each film showing. Water is on its way to becoming the oil of the 21st century. World water shortages brought about by increasing demands of growing populations and the misuse of water, along with globalization and the trend to privatize many government services and responsibilities, are adding up to what may be a world water crisis.

While improved technology and new and alternate sources may provide answers to the energy crunch, scientists have not yet discovered how to make more water. As the planet’s fresh water supply dwindles, interviews with scientists, governments, multinational corporations, and activists reveal the shape of the coming crisis and the influence of politics, pollution, human rights, and the emergence of a world water cartel upon it.

Admission is free, however, donations are gratefully accepted.
