An Architect/Artist's View of the North Woods
Although Kerry Yandell received her Bachelor of Fine Art from UWM in 1991 it is her Masters of Architecture from UWM in 1997 which provided her a unique perspective in “An Autumn Interlude,” a collection of her oils on display at Taylors People’s Park in historic downtown Waukesha though February 7.
The landscapes in the exhibit represent a complete departure from the “built” environment of the architect. They incorporate certain strategies she implements when designing building facades. Proportion, scale, rhythm, texture, line, form, are all explored in this series of abstracted landscapes inspired by Wisconsin’s North Woods. She has always believed that the ability to create images grows from an ability to really “see” and to then translate that vision through our extremities with whatever medium is necessary to articulate that vision.
Kerry and her husband Ken also own and operate the BYO gallery on S. Kinnickinnic in Milwaukee’s Bay View area. People’s Park is at 337 W. Main St. Waukesha 262-522-6868.
