Redbrid-Redoak to offer Writer's Roundtables at Oconomowoc Art Gallery

“Writing is a solitary pursuit, but it doesn’t have to be an isolating one,” states Kim Suhr, director of RedBird-RedOak Writing, an organization dedicated to nurturing working writers. “That’s why the Roundtable groups at our Milwaukee studio have been so popular. Now we can offer the same camaraderie and support to writers in the Lake Country area.”

The organization will offer twice-monthly Roundtables at the AC Toyer Gallery at 148 E. Wisconsin in downtown Oconomowoc.

“Angel Troyer has created a wonderful, energetic space for local artists to show and sell their work. We feel very fortunate to be able to bring writers into this space to get feedback and inspiration in their genre of choice.”

The group will meet two Monday afternoons a month from noon to 2:30. Writers bring in copies of their work in progress, read it aloud to the group and get feedback and ideas for revision.

“At first, it’s a little unnerving to read your work to others, but, before long, the group really bonds. The feedback is substantive, honest and supportive,” states Suhr who has been a member as well as facilitator of Roundtable feedback groups. She explains the advantages of a facilitated group over less formal sharing with friends and family: “While it feels terrific to share our work with those close to us – who love it, practically by definition -- it’s extremely difficult to get objective feedback. But, when a group of working writers approaches the same piece, the writer receives concrete input on technique and style that it’s hard to find anywhere else.”

This type of feedback is prized by the writers who receive it. The group is open to writers of all levels of experience. Registration can be found at their website: http://www.redbirdredoak.com or by calling 414-881-7276.
